Plenaries
In the present day, trade and treaties often denote an ever-expanding world, where the invisible hand of trade seems to be benefitting people of all nations, throughout the world. However, what is often overlooked is the inability of these treaties to alleviate populations living in poverty, particularly in the developing world, and instead results in the rich getting wealthier and the poor sinking deeper and deeper into the poverty cycle. As nations and trading blocs continue to make economic pacts and communities, a central aspect that must be considered is efficiency. Whether or not it is detrimental to form an economic bloc in the name of globalization is something that must be reevaluated. The general global opinion of globalization seems to be fading as fewer people are profiting and increasingly large numbers of people are beginning to view the once-perceived miracle of globalization as a form of Neo-Colonialism. The main purpose of the trade and treaties plenary is to examine the problem of Neo-Colonialism versus Globalization and how trade and treaties can play a role in increasing wealth while at the same time reducing poverty.
