  9.     In a world of rapid globalization, developing nations struggle to meet the demands of this new epoch while simultaneously attempting to preserve their identities. This plenary will discuss globalization and its underlying effects on culture prevalence in developing nations. Today the richest nations are expanding economically into the developing countries. Globalization has brought with it, a wave of homogenization of culture, to suit a global marketplace for trade. Global brands such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Coca-Cola, are now very common in diverse societies all over the world. While globalization brings great economic benefits, we must also assess its negative impacts. Are we forcing our Western principles and ideals on the developing nations? Can we strive for economic activity, while simultaneously preserving the culture of nations? Is it possible to have success without the growth, expansion and influences of the Western world?
